‘We want freedom of worship’
Particants at the Initiative for Inter-religious Peace and Harmony Abuja-Nigeria in collaboration with Nigeria Faith-Based Community Organisation, New Jersey USA, in Abuja concert included Christians, Muslims, Eckankar, Traditional religion, Jewish, Unificationism, Confucianism among others.
Speaking at the occasion, the Secretary General of the Initiative for Inter-religious Peace and Harmony Abuja-Nigeria, Amb. Simon Dolly urged Nigerians including those at the helm of affairs to take freedom of religion as enshrined in the constitution beyond rhetoric.
“We are all worshiping one God; the only challenge we have is that we have different methods of worship. What we project here is freedom of religion, freedom of worship. This is what we want in this country. We want every religion to cooperate and work towards peace building. What this country needs most is peace. And I am calling on Nigerian youth to give peace a chance. No government will succeed without peace,” he said.
Dolly explained that the concept was designed to primarily “create harmonious co-existence among people in the country, and we really want celebrate our diversity.”
Chairman of the occasion and former Director General, Institute of Peace and Conflict Resolution, Abuja-Nigeria, Prof. Joseph Golwa said “inter-religious harmony is what all of us must be committed to”, urging Nigerians to be their brother’s keeper.
