WARNING: Lassa Fever Spreads To Ogun State

On Thursday, Dr. Babatunde Ipaye, the Ogun State Commissioner for Health, announced that the State had recorded its first case of Lassa fever.
The announcement was made during a press conference in Abeokuta, the State capital.
Dr. Ipaye identified the first case to be a 28-year-old woman who was discovered to be infected with the virus on Wednesday.

Upon discovering she was infected, the patient was immediately moved to an isolation center at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital.
According to Dr. Ipaye, the patient was given the drug Rivarim and placed under observation.
The Commissioner for Health noted that 60 people who had contact with the patient were placed under observation as well.

“These 60 people have been placed under surveillance, but I want to appeal to the residents not to panic. They must be vigilant and maintain good hygiene in their homes,” Dr. Ipaye said.
